Robert Cooke: A very nice hostel centrally located in Arugam Bay.It’s very popular so you may want to book ahead and I am someone who hates booking ahead. The rooms are comfortable and clean with really good bathrooms. You can rent surfing boards and buy beers. There is a great cheap restaurant directly across the road and the buses to Pottuvil and beyond stop right aside. In the evening people tend to gather around a big desk to socialise, drink and usually head out. 1 night 10-15 of us got some taxis and went to Whisky Point. It’s pretty much the ideal hostel for a solo backpacker like myself. I’d highly recommend.
Luke Gallagher: This is THE BEST place to stay in Arugam Bay. It is close to every thing you want to do here. The prices are so cheap. It is very clean and all the people are very friendly. They have good Wi-Fi and they have a solar system with a battery backup to store electricity, so you will never even know that the main power in the town is out. I will definitely be coming back to this place when I return and I will recommend it to all my friends too. Make your booking now! Don’t miss out.
Will Mathwin: Easily the best hostel I have ever stayed at, the hostel was spotless, close to the beach and next door to great restaurants. You have to be careful of Harold’s jokes and Mama’s smile because you’ll end up staying far longer than planned. 100% recommended!

We tried to find a room in about 10 different hostels in arugam bay before (Most of them had too high Prices and were in a very Bad condition! we came to the long Hostel . We booked a single room with an own bathroom. The hostel is 5 weeks old (September 2016) so everything is in top condition and Has a very high Comfort for this Prices! It was the best Hostel we saw in Arugam Bay by far! There are backpackers from all Countries staying in the Single rooms or dorms. The Owners make you breakfast, Dinner and help you with Things like Transports or informations about Arugam Bay. It felt like home!:-) We highly recommend this hostel! Especially if you are a backpacker and want Europeans Standards! We would 100% stay there again.

Awesome owner an staff amazing food with a good easy tab service, hammocks nice rooms and best shower I’ve ever had at a hostel, booked for two nights now have extended to 8, its also very sociable something about the layout encourages it I think and its a two minute walk from the beach and surf shops and despite its beach location the rooms and shared area are all sand free due to some foot taps and the staff, which is nice as you don’t want it all over your room, also get the pizza.
Sina Behrens: It felt like home. We had planned a stay of 6 days and stayed 10. We had the single privative room for two. Everything was clean and tidy. The biggest compliment goes to the staff, they are very attentive and very funny. We always had a lot of fun. The owner and especially his wife are very adorable and try to help with any problems. The hostel is very centrally located and only a few minutes walk to the beach. We recommend the hostel to people between 20 and 30 who like a little bustle, because in the evening is often together and celebrated. We will definitely be back.”
Khalid B: Was meant to stay 3 nights ended up staying 10. Long hostel is one of the best hostels i have ever stayed in. Has all the amenities you need, great vibes, close to the beach. The hostel can organise safaries ,surfing and other excursions at great prices. The hostel is also close to tasty restraunts and the best of all a cheap bar to by alcohol. Myself and a friend were only meant to stay 3 nights but ended up spending 10 nights there. Many other guests ended up extending too. Finally onto the main piece of the puzzle the owner Harold, what a guy lives and breathes the hostel, has a very unique personality which all the guests loved and was a great host. Acacia Bing: Just the best. One of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed at! Super clean, Harold and the staff are super organised and fun to hang out with, the tab system is super efficient, plenty of space for boards, lockers in every room, hammocks, 1 minute walk from essentially every thing in A bay! Communal fridge and kitchenette also. Highly recommend.
Tom: 2 weeks in Arugam Bay. “Stayed here on and off for two weeks with 9 other friends. All rooms were clean and tidy, amenities were clean. Food served was great and all staff were friendly. Would recommend staying here if travelling alone or in a group.
Tal R: “Stay here. This is the place to stay in arugam bay as a solo traveler or as a group. It’s an incredibly warm staff and as a result, guests. The atmosphere is very social and friendly and evenings are always a great time to meet new people and check out the town or plan the next morning’s surf trip. Other than that, it’s abnormally clean and disciplined and well run. Lots of peace of mind and every aspect is transparent, efficient, and done well. It was a welcome oasis of order and reliability after traveling in South Asia for a while.

Nadja: German efficiency. The long hostel is a very clean and good organized hostel. The beds are comfortable (we had a double room) and the bathroom is nice. They have good (Italian) coffee and they also serve breakfast. The atmosphere and the people are really good and the hammocks in the front are good to chill and meet people.
Cltravell: GREAT HOSTEL. Really good hostel close To the beach. The host and his lovely wife make sure you have a good and clean stay and a safe trip. It’s a party hostel so don’t choose it if you want to sleep early. But book in advance if you want To stay more than a night because it get booked really fast!

Gillian: Found home in Arugam Bay. I loved the Long Hostel! After staying in a very dirty hostel, the Long Hostel was a pleasant surprise, and I ended up staying for over a week! The place is filled with other solo travellers, some staying for a couple days, some staying for several months. Great vibe, and if you can find a buddy, the private double room is a steal of a deal! The owners are so lovely and it’s in a great location.
Sam: Clean & social hostel. The place is 100m from the beach, the rooms are clean and the staff is very friendly. On the downside. the place is a bit noisy and it can get crazy hot in the non-ac rooms at night. But all in all. ideal for solo backpackers!
Maraj12345: Excellent backpackers’ hostel. Vibe, location and staff all great. Stayed in the private double room with ac- both common and private areas all kept very clean. Hammocks and clothe lines outside- this is a hostel that knows what backpackers want. Extremely organised place, only thing to keep in mind is that if you want a particularly quiet place this hostel tends to get loud during the evening due to the majority of guests staying in dorms and socialising in the common areas, however this goes on no later than 11 so shouldn’t be a problem. Overall, really great stay.
frey134: Great hostel. This hostel is great for backpackers. We found it to be very friendly and people generally went out together in big groups for nights out so had a fun atmosphere for pres. The hostel was also in a good location, centrally located for shops and restaurants. The rooms were very clean and you could lock your bags away under the beds and mosquito nets were also provided. The bathrooms were also exceptionally clean and the showers were warm. The breakfasts on offer were also very yummy but they did take a while to be served (could take up to 45 minutes). The only other thing I would say is that they could provide a printer (even with a small fee) as it proved difficult finding somewhere to print boarding passes off. However, we really enjoyed our stay.
